REVIEW:

Well, we showed up this second night without any clue as to what was going to happen. We were confident that we could get some people there this night because we had our buddies from Summer Of George playing with us. (For those of you wondering, Paul and Taylor formed Summer Of George two weeks before the show, when we knew we weren't getting another band to play with us. Along with Nathan Jank, Justin Duhn and Richard Lewis, they formed to specifically play rockin' cover songs that the bikers would like.)

Lets just say this night was exponentially more fun than the previous night. Friends and family were coming out of the woodwork to come support both bands. Suprisingly, Summer Of George got everybody in a good mood, and ready to rock. One of the highlights included Ryan guest guitaring on Eric Clapton's "Cocaine," even though he had never played the song with the rest of the band.

As for the Scholar's set, it became increasingly more fun as people (including the band) became increasingly more drunk...thus creating an atmosphere into which rock music became rockin' music.
(I just made that up...you like that, don't you?...)

Review:

Well, we know you've all been dying to know what it was like to play our first show since May, our first show since the release of our CD, and our first show at a biker bar.  So...here it goes.  We were feelin' good until we started playing.  And it wasn't so much that we played bad, but that the crowd was pretty much non-existant.  Then, it got scary.  Not like rollercoaster scary...like rollin'-down-Rodeo-with-a-shotgun scary.  The crowd that was there to see us consisted of 6 people, which is sad, but you figure there's got to be some people at this bar on a Friday who we might "win over."  Turns out you figured wrong.  There were about 8 other people there, who could have cared less about that thing we call music.  And it wasn't like this was a cramped coffee shop venue, where 15 or so people could have felt like a lot.  There was a lot of open space...a lot.

That's the setup...now for the lowdown on the show.  We opened with a brand new song, which rocks (you should come check us out to find out how much), then went into Run Away...where Paul forgot the poppy-riff that goes during the breaks...which is fine because no one there knew how the song was supposed to go...or was listening, but we knew...oh, we knew.  At any rate, we busted out some covers we'd been working on, Weezer's "Say It Ain't So" and Neil Young's "Rockin' In The Free World."  We were hoping to gain some biker fans with the "classic rock," so we closed with RITFW, hoping they would want more.  As it would be, the guys from Rhymes With Orange (the band we opened for) dug it, but we didn't get much feedback from anyone else, so there went our "unplanned" encore.  We ended up adding one song to our set, and playing for an hour and a half, with no break.  That's the scary part.  It left us questioning whether or not we could actually pull off our show the next night because we were headlining and were suppose to fill three hours by ourselves...and we played all but three of the songs we all knew how to play together and only filled an hour and a half.  Paul was so concerned that it's rumored he said, "I hope this is the worst night of my life, so things can only get better from here."

Oh, and probably the highlight of the night was that Ryan kept promoting our merchandise table inbetween every couple songs, even though no one had any intentions of buying a CD after the first time he mentioned it.  Needless to say, we didn't sell any CD's at our own CD release party.
