For a Monday night show that we booked just a week before, we had a GREAT turnout. Big thanks to everyone who came out to the show, especially the people who came all by their lonesomes. The show was awesome because anyone sounds awesome at the Waiting Room, and it looks like we'll be getting another gig there pretty soon. Oh, and this marked the first time that the soundman gave us more time than we were supposed to have...so we through in Satisfied and a little Rockin' for all the Monday night drinkers.

If you were curious what happens when you play a $0.25 cent taco night at Knickerbockers and they run out of tacos, the answer is you get really drunk. Case in point the Irish Car Bombs we started taking, followed by plenty of beer while Fork and TF were playing, followed by another Irish Car Bomb, followed by the inevitable shot of Tequila while on stage.
But it does make for a great show. We were saying afterwards that with a crowd like that, how could we not have had a great show. It was probably the biggest crowd we've had at Knickerbockers since our CD release party there almost a year ago. We gave people what they wanted early, got some hot girl named Julie to dance on stage for us with her friends (and an owl) during "Smile," and had a considerable amount of drunken, rock and roll fun with the drum riser.
All in all, I'd say this was the single most crowning achievment in that owl's life...and possibly Connealy's...

We were more than happy to play Fork In The Road's Omaha CD Release Party and playing at the newly re-opened Saddle Creek Bar was the icing on the non-existant Cake cover that we play (if you're looking for a good Cake cover, check out a Third Frate show). Our set was pretty rockin' because Keegan decorated it prior to the show. This was also the first show since I had become unemployed. My TV show, the KXVO 15 10:00 News, just got the axe a week prior and our last show ever was the night before this rock and roll show. Some people from work came out and said it looked very theraputic for me to be banging on the drums, and, I have to admit, I wasn't holding back...case in point the extended snare run at the end of See You Again during the drum solo. It was something I'd be thinking about doing for awhile, but had never practiced with or without the band and I just said, "Screw it, I'm going for it,"...but I did say it to myself and in the figurative sense. It was basically a continuous 12 measure roll on the snare and it was awesome. Suprising and awesome. Just like selling merch...suprising and awesome. Big thanks to everyone who came out and to Brazen Media and Fork In The Road for having us play...and for giving a moment of silence to the death of the KXVO 10:00 News.

Review:
So the last time we played here, here wasn't there. Let me explain. The Waiting Room is the newest venue in Omaha, run by the guys from One Percent Productions. They turned it into something awesome. The last time we played there it was less than awesome. Well, I shouldn't say that...you could see that it had potential if someone was willing to spend the money. At the time, it was Dub's Pub...a biker bar with a sweet stage. We had our CD release party there for our first disc, "Leaving It Behind," and played back to back nights for a long long time. The first night we didn't sell any CD's. The second night we sould 6 or so.
Flash forward to this show and there's a whole different feeling. For one, the stage was revamped so that there was no longer a 1 foot wide walkway infront of the drum riser. And on top of that, the sound system is simply amazing...everything you'd want in a venue that size. After coming straight to the venue from KXVO (filming the in studio performance of "Don't")...with a slight detour at the Pizza Shoppe, we started setting up and people started flocking in...sort of...we did have a pretty packed house for the show and those shows always rock more than when we're playing for my family.
I was really pumped to play because Matt Whipkey and Anonymous American are one of my favorite bands, locally and possibly ever, and Ryan said he wouldn't screw up tonight just for me...and he remembered all the words, so I say that's all a drummer can ask for. All in all, great night of music.

Rockin' In The Free World*
* = planned encore that we never got to
Review:
This show was monumental in the history of the Ten O'Clock Scholars. After being a band for the better part of 7 years, and having the current lineup for nearly 5, this marked the first time in the history of the Scholars that we let Connealy make up the setlist. In response, Connealy said, "Oh sure, you guys give me this crappy show." However, in our defense, he did plan an encore...and he also had Back Porch (a song which we haven't played for a year) on the setlist. So, this'll probably be the last time Connealy gets to write the setlist all by himself...at least for another 5 years.
